Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area is recruiting 50 mentors in 50 days to fill its waiting list of unmatched children in the area. The campaign runs from Feb. 1 to March 22.

Everyone remembers someone special – a neighbor, professor, relative or friend – who broadened our horizons and brought a little magic into our lives. Maybe it was someone who taught you to throw a baseball or ride a bike; or maybe it was someone who helped you make the right decision when you needed direction.

Sharing everyday experiences with a child is the premise on which Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area is based. We have been transforming lives since 1973, and have developed several successful programs proven to make a BIG difference in the life of a child.

Becoming a “Big” is a fun and easy way to volunteer in your community. We have several program options that fit your schedule and interests. We also offer a variety of agency-planned activities for “Bigs” and “Littles,” such as having a “Big Brothers Big Sisters Night” at a Danville Braves game.

We have 22 children on the waiting list ready to be matched with a volunteer mentor. If you are a male or female 18 or older, you may be eligible to become a “Big” brother or sister to a youth between the ages of 6 and 14. Your commitment is a minimum of one hour per week for a year.
