On Monday, August 1st Gerald Kelly, owner of O’Kelly’s restaurant was given the award for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area’s Big of the year! This family man sees his little at least twice a week. They spend almost every weekend together. During that time, they attend church regularly, enjoy family dinners, and go on many trips together. Gerald is a godly man that uses his resources to help many. Ziquan is not only his “little” but he is a part of the family. Gerald is continuously teaching Ziquan how to work and he says his goal is to make him a strong, productive, citizen in this community. The child’s grandmother commends Gerald every chance she gets about the positive changes that he has brought about in his life. She is very happy and is more than satisfied with the match.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area provides one-to-one mentoring for children in Danville and Pittsylvania County, serving over 300 children annually.

2024 Regional Scripps Spelling Bee
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area held the Regional Spelling Bee at Averett University, Blount Chapel, on Saturday, March 16, 2024. Dante Pauley from Tunstall Middle School emerged as the winner. The winning word was toploftical, which means very superior in air or attitude. The winner is able to compete in the National Spelling Bee in National Harbor, Maryland May 26-31.

Big Brothers Big Sisters at Capitol Hill
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area CEO Pat Daniel attended BBBS at Capitol Hill Day in Washington DC on February 28, 2024. 115 BBBS agency leaders from 91 agencies from 31 states were in attendance as well as local BBBS affiliate CEO's, National Staff, and BBBS Board of Directors members.
