Pathways for Future Engineers with Dr. Trey Waller and Perry and Kim Martin gave a lecture about first generation college students and admissions. The youth completed an engineering project and were given goodie bags as takeaways.
On July 18, youth visited the VA Tech Athletic Complex which included Lane Stadium, Cassell Coliseum, and Merryman Training Facility. Afterwards, the youth visited the Booker T. Washington Museum.
Little Hamir attended the Dan River Bethel Civic League 87th Anniversary with his Big Gary. All youth in attendance were recognized by the Board Chair Dorothy Neals.
The 2025 Scripps Regional Spelling Bee was held Saturday, March 15, 2025 at 3:00pm at Averett University’s Blount Chapel. Dr. Marc Muneal acted as a pronouncer. The three judges were Dr. Jennifer Hughes, Eben Leigh and Tia Yancey. Twelve students competed in the Bee from the city of Danville and Pittsylvania County Public Schools. BBBS Capitol Hill Day took place in Washington DC on Feb 26. The training sessions focused on Senate and Congressional Presentations. The trip ended with visits to Senators Kaine and Warner’s offices and Congresspersons John McGuire, Jennifer McClellan, and Ben Cline. On Tuesday, Jan 21, the SAO Consortium had their monthly meeting at Sundae Selfie Studio on Mount Cross Road. BGCDVA CEO Gary Terry, BBBS of Danville Area CEO Pat Daniel, and CCBT ED Kenny Lewis met, had lunch, and took selfies. Owner and Hostess Jabrille Brown gave a tour of the studio.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area provides one-to-one mentoring for children in Danville and Pittsylvania County, serving over 300 children annually.
