On July 18, youth visited the VA Tech Athletic Complex which included Lane Stadium, Cassell Coliseum, and Merryman Training Facility. Afterwards, the youth visited the Booker T. Washington Museum.

Little Hamir attended the Dan River Bethel Civic League 87th Anniversary with his Big Gary. All youth in attendance were recognized by the Board Chair Dorothy Neals.
2025 Scripps Regional Spelling Bee Winner
The 2025 Scripps Regional Spelling Bee was held Saturday, March 15, 2025 at 3:00pm at Averett University’s Blount Chapel. Dr. Marc Muneal acted as a pronouncer. The three judges were Dr. Jennifer Hughes, Eben Leigh and Tia Yancey. Twelve students competed in the Bee from the city of Danville and Pittsylvania County Public Schools. Board Meeting at Caesar’s Virginia
J. Hoffman, J. Word, M. Beasley (Board Chair), S Wingate, E. A. Woody, E. White, J. Menefee, and M. Mondul attended a Board of Directors meeting for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area. The meeting was held at Caesar’s Virginia on Tuesday, March 11, 2025.
BBBS Capitol Hill Day 2025
BBBS Capitol Hill Day took place in Washington DC on Feb 26. The training sessions focused on Senate and Congressional Presentations. The trip ended with visits to Senators Kaine and Warner’s offices and Congresspersons John McGuire, Jennifer McClellan, and Ben Cline. SAO Consortium at Sundae Selfie Studio
On Tuesday, Jan 21, the SAO Consortium had their monthly meeting at Sundae Selfie Studio on Mount Cross Road. BGCDVA CEO Gary Terry, BBBS of Danville Area CEO Pat Daniel, and CCBT ED Kenny Lewis met, had lunch, and took selfies. Owner and Hostess Jabrille Brown gave a tour of the studio.
Vision Screening at Boys and Girls Club
On Wednesday, Jan 29, CIC Head Start held a vision screening at the Boys and Girls Club on Foster St, Danville, VA. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area Little Marquarius participated in the screening along with 16 other youth.
2024 Annual Pancake Breakfast
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area held our Annual Pancake Breakfast on December 14, 2024, in the large dining room of SOVAH, Danville, VA. SAO Consortium and BBBS College Tours
On Monday, July 27, 2026, the SAO Consortium, which includes Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area traveled to Salisbury, NC to Livingstone College and Catawba College. Twenty students and seven chaperones toured the campuses that included the chapels, radio/podcasts, admissions, Divine Nine Yard, academic buildings, and environmental areas. The presenters gave information about the academic degrees and sports offerings.

Let’s Go Fishing
On June 13, Chuck Eskey and Marine Corps Toys for Tots sponsored a Fishing Trip at Deerwood Springs Creek in Blairs, VA. 10 children from BBBS attended, and all were first-time fishers. One first-time fisher, pictured in photo 3, caught 2 fish! Volunteers from the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries taught and helped the children fish. There was plenty of fishing and food provided by O'Kelly's.
The youth had snacks, deli sandwiches, and ice cream to eat, and they played cornhole and other fishing games. Bookbags were given as gifts according to age group. Thank you to our sponsors and volunteers for making this event possible!
