On Saturday, March 21st, 2015 was the local Spelling Bee held at Blount Chapel of Averett University of Danville, VA. From 17 contestants, Caleb Adams, son of Ann and Randy Adams, emerged as the winner. Caleb attends Westwood Middle School. After 126 rounds, Caleb spelled the word (crumpet) that gave him the lead over the second place contestant, Luke Garcia, who attends Sacred Heart School. Caleb Adams will move on to the National Scripps Spelling Bee located near Washington D.C. on May 24th-28th of this year. The local Spelling Bee was sponsored by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area, Averett University, and Morning Star Family Practice.
