Margaret Milam is a former Title I teacher who uses her professional skills to assist the youth with Reading. She mentors in the school based program. The volunteer states the youth has been a joy to talk to. Margaret focuses mainly her “little”, but interacts with other students during lunch as well. She takes the young lady Reading material to assist with improving her Reading skills.
The youth, Alexandria has improved with her confidence and self-esteem. She says Ms. Milam coming to the school makes her day. She loves the attention the volunteer shows her. The youth is excited to see the mentor coming into the school. Alexandra’s teacher says she is very pleased with the youth’s progress. She reports that she has shown improvement, and wishes that there more people like Margaret. The volunteer states that she plans to be with Alexandria through college.
