Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area in conjunction with Ashley Furniture’s “A Hope to Dream” kick-off was a success on Saturday, March 29th. Many stopped by to show support. Among those was our very own President, Kelvin Perry and our Treasurer, Ed White. Roxanne and Hutch from WAKG broadcasting were present keeping the community informed about the kick-off. A few players of the Averett Basketball team came by and participated in the raffles. Some of the prizes, just to name a few, were Beats By Dre headphones, A Fossil watch, Circus Tickets, and a Zinc’s Beauty Salon gift card. Also, there were delicious Barbeque sandwiches for sale made by Mama Possum’s Restaurant.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area provides one-to-one mentoring for children in Danville and Pittsylvania County, serving over 300 children annually.

2024 Regional Scripps Spelling Bee
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area held the Regional Spelling Bee at Averett University, Blount Chapel, on Saturday, March 16, 2024. Dante Pauley from Tunstall Middle School emerged as the winner. The winning word was toploftical, which means very superior in air or attitude. The winner is able to compete in the National Spelling Bee in National Harbor, Maryland May 26-31.

Big Brothers Big Sisters at Capitol Hill
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area CEO Pat Daniel attended BBBS at Capitol Hill Day in Washington DC on February 28, 2024. 115 BBBS agency leaders from 91 agencies from 31 states were in attendance as well as local BBBS affiliate CEO's, National Staff, and BBBS Board of Directors members.
