Catherine Owen works and attends Liberty University. She goes to the school to have lunch with the youth each week. They do fun activities together. The volunteer wanted to join the program to give back to the community. The little, Tenyiah Poole, enjoys having a Big sister. She feels as if the volunteer is really her Big sister. The youth does well in school, but the volunteer, using her skills from college, encourages the youth to do even better. The youth now is not as shy as she once was and respects the volunteer.
Tenyiah’s grandmother also loves the mentor. The Grandmother states that the volunteer does activities and things that she is not able to participate in. They have a great relationship. She calls the volunteer “Kat”. The little’s grandmother states that the volunteer is the best thing to happen to Tenyiah through the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area program.
