On May 13th, the North Main Baptist Church Hannah Sunday school class and the youth of Big Brothers Big Sisters had a “Paint N Sip” at the United Way large conference room. Seventeen youth and ten adults created sunflower paintings while sipping on sparkling soda.
The young girls of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area had the opportunity to learn about skincare and makeup tips for girls their age. Joan Pruitt led the Skincare Workshop at United Way. She gave the girls a skincare regimen as well as individualized makeup.
Men’s Ministry of Ascension Lutheran Church went on a tour with the youth of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area to DCC. The tour began on South Main Street at the Wyatt Building and ended at the Temple Building on Bonner Avenue. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area held its 26th Annual Pancake Breakfast in the Large Dining Room of SOVAH-Danville on Saturday, December 1, 2018. Decorating the Trees for a Cause is open Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm. Extended hours are December 1st 6-8pm and and December 7, 14, 17, and 19, until 7pm. Danville, VA Sheriff and Police departments joined Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area to watch the Harlem Globetrotters at Averett University’s North Campus. There were snacks and drinks. Children participated in competitions the Harlem Globetrotters organized and met individually with the Harlem Globetrotters.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area provides one-to-one mentoring for children in Danville and Pittsylvania County, serving over 300 children annually.
On Monday, July 27, 2026, the SAO Consortium, which includes Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area traveled to Salisbury, NC to Livingstone College and Catawba College. Twenty students and seven chaperones toured the campuses that included the chapels, radio/podcasts, admissions, Divine Nine Yard, academic buildings, and environmental areas. The presenters gave information about the academic degrees and sports offerings.

Today is the 53rd Anniversary of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area! BBBS was founded by Judge Spiros Skendaris with the aim of providing children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported 1:1 relationships that change their lives for the better.

On June 13, Chuck Eskey and Marine Corps Toys for Tots sponsored a Fishing Trip at Deerwood Springs Creek in Blairs, VA. 10 children from BBBS attended, and all were first-time fishers. One first-time fisher, pictured in photo 3, caught 2 fish! Volunteers from the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries taught and helped the children fish. There was plenty of fishing and food provided by O'Kelly's.
The youth had snacks, deli sandwiches, and ice cream to eat, and they played cornhole and other fishing games. Bookbags were given as gifts according to age group. Thank you to our sponsors and volunteers for making this event possible!
