On Saturday, November 30, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area visited Ascension Lutheran Church for the raising of the Chrismon tree. The youth made Chrismon ornaments in the fish symbol. On Monday, November 25, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area went to New Ground Church with the Bloom Ministries. There was a discussion activity on “giving thanks.” The youth were given warm fuzzy socks for the winter. The evening ended with a cupcake social. On October 24th, 12 girls attended dinner and a movie at the Danville Stadium Cinema. They saw The Addams Family and had dinner which included desert and candy for take-home treats. On Oct 21, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area and the Mt. Hermon Willing Servants class visited Owen’s Farm to look at animals and tour the farm. Each child got to pick a pumpkin to take home. Joe Nicholson gave a lesson, and everyone shared a hot dog dinner.

September 13-14, the 7 youth and chaperones from Big Brothers Big Sisters attended the Virginia Statewide Neighborhood Conference. The conference included the Youth Café which is designed for youth ages 13-18. Classes included youth engagement and how to get college scholarships. Every morning, there were speakers at breakfast. On July 7, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area and Daly Seven Corporation hosted the Daly Day of Donating at a Sacred Heart soccer field. 30 youth and adult chaperones attended the event. Inflatable water slide and tunnels, dunking and photo booths, face painting, and musical chairs were part of the event. On Monday, July 29th, 25 youth and four volunteers from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area went to see “The Lion King” at the Gretna Theatre. They ate pizza, soda, and cupcakes prior to seeing the movie and had popcorn, candy, and drinks during the movie. The event was sponsored by Board Member Marie Young and her husband, Donald. On July 15, 2019, ten youth and the Mt. Hermon Willing Servants Sunday School Class visited the Danville Life Saving Crew Training Center. Tobie Addis and Sheri Giannini showed the youth the rescue vehicles and equipment used for land and water rescue. They learned the importance of the equipment and how they will help in any emergency situation.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area provides one-to-one mentoring for children in Danville and Pittsylvania County, serving over 300 children annually.

2024 Regional Scripps Spelling Bee
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area held the Regional Spelling Bee at Averett University, Blount Chapel, on Saturday, March 16, 2024. Dante Pauley from Tunstall Middle School emerged as the winner. The winning word was toploftical, which means very superior in air or attitude. The winner is able to compete in the National Spelling Bee in National Harbor, Maryland May 26-31.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area CEO Pat Daniel attended BBBS at Capitol Hill Day in Washington DC on February 28, 2024. 115 BBBS agency leaders from 91 agencies from 31 states were in attendance as well as local BBBS affiliate CEO's, National Staff, and BBBS Board of Directors members.
