VA Statewide Neighborhood Conference

September 13-14, the 7 youth and chaperones from Big Brothers Big Sisters attended the Virginia Statewide Neighborhood Conference. The conference included the Youth Café which is designed for youth ages 13-18. Classes included youth engagement and how to get college scholarships. Every morning, there were speakers at breakfast. Daly Day of Donating is Fun for All

On July 7, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area and Daly Seven Corporation hosted the Daly Day of Donating at a Sacred Heart soccer field. 30 youth and adult chaperones attended the event. Inflatable water slide and tunnels, dunking and photo booths, face painting, and musical chairs were part of the event. Littles Go See”The Lion King”

On Monday, July 29th, 25 youth and four volunteers from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area went to see “The Lion King” at the Gretna Theatre. They ate pizza, soda, and cupcakes prior to seeing the movie and had popcorn, candy, and drinks during the movie. The event was sponsored by Board Member Marie Young and her husband, Donald. Littles Visit Life Saving Crew Training Center

On July 15, 2019, ten youth and the Mt. Hermon Willing Servants Sunday School Class visited the Danville Life Saving Crew Training Center. Tobie Addis and Sheri Giannini showed the youth the rescue vehicles and equipment used for land and water rescue. They learned the importance of the equipment and how they will help in any emergency situation.

Littles Tour Sites in Virginia

Dixie Caverns

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area recently went on a trip that started with a tour of the Greenbrier Hotel grounds and bunker. The next day, they visited the Dixie Caverns in Salem, VA for a lecture about the caverns and a short tour. Later that day, they visited the Booker T. The young girls of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area had the opportunity to learn about skincare and makeup tips for girls their age. Joan Pruitt led the Skincare Workshop at United Way. She gave the girls a skincare regimen as well as individualized makeup.
