The Ascension Lutheran Church Men’s Fellowship assisted our male littles with building bird houses on May 17th. The youth learned how to use hammers, nails, and drills to complete each project. On Wednesday, April 18th Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area joined together with The Ascension Lutheran Church Men’s Fellowship for an event entitled, “Lights On in My Home” . Male littles were able to conduct an electric experiment teaching them how to change batteries and given a U/L approved tester to check electrical outlets. On Tuesday, April 17th, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area joined with The Averett University Men’s Basketball team for the “Bigs: Safety Training”. On Monday, April 9th Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area in conjunction with members of the Jr. Wednesday Club came together for “Yoga Night”. The Westmoreland Neighborhood Churches held ecumenical Lenten Services from February 14th 2018 – March 29th 2018. The services included Ash Wednesday and Maundy Thursday services. On Saturday, March 17th The Local Scripps Spelling Bee was held at the Blount Chapel. On Tuesday, March 20th Ben David Jewelers hosted “A Day of Happiness” at their location of Danville, VA. Our “littles” were able to describe what happiness means to them on paper that was displayed on a wall for the public to view. 2024 Regional Scripps Spelling Bee
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area held the Regional Spelling Bee at Averett University, Blount Chapel, on Saturday, March 16, 2024. Dante Pauley from Tunstall Middle School emerged as the winner. The winning word was toploftical, which means very superior in air or attitude. The winner is able to compete in the National Spelling Bee in National Harbor, Maryland May 26-31.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area CEO Pat Daniel attended BBBS at Capitol Hill Day in Washington DC on February 28, 2024. 115 BBBS agency leaders from 91 agencies from 31 states were in attendance as well as local BBBS affiliate CEO's, National Staff, and BBBS Board of Directors members.
