Youth Attend National Conference, Learn about Gangs and Bullying

Eleven youth from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area attended the Virginia Statewide National Conference in Glen Allen, VA on September 22 and 23rd. The Youth Cafe had presentations by the VA Attorney General with collaboration from the City Norfolk’s Commonwealth Attorney’s office on gangs and bullying. Big/Little of July 2017 Announced

Margaret Milam is a former Title I teacher who uses her professional skills to assist the youth with Reading. She mentors in the school based program. The volunteer states the youth has been a joy to talk to. Margaret focuses mainly her “little”, but interacts with other students during lunch as well. On August 3, 2017, Dough For Degree$ founder, Danielle Jeffers shared with “littles” the early preparations for college. Backpack Giveaway

Daly Day of Donating

On July 13th, eight sales managers of the Daly Seven Corporation participated in the “Daly Day of Donating”.  Joe Daly, Corporate Director of Sales, led the event held at the Pepsi Building, Craghead St. The event started with a visit from the Mayor John B. Gilstrap and Blooper from the Danville Braves. The “littles” of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area spent an evening with Sheriff Mike Taylor at the United Way, 308 Craghead St. on July 18, 2017. Pool Party

On July 17, 2017 15 littles from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area joined with the Mt. Hermon Willing Servants Sunday School Class for a pool party. There was a hot dog dinner, strawberry shortcake, and slushies prepared the kids. Thanks to the wonderful hostess for sharing their home with our agency. Danville City Jail Visit

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area visited the Danville City Jail on Wednesday, June 14th. Sheriff Mike Mondul accompanied the youth on the tour that showed the entire intake process from the Magistrate’s Office to Cell Block lock-up. On Monday, May 8th Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area celebrated “The End of the Year Farewell” with the Jr. Wednesday Club.
