On Monday, April 9th Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area in conjunction with members of the Jr. Wednesday Club came together for “Yoga Night”. The young ladies participated in Yoga led by instructor Christina Decker. Then the littles played a “Get to Know You” game with M& M’s. Then they finished the night with a healthy dinner. The Westmoreland Neighborhood Churches held ecumenical Lenten Services from February 14th 2018 – March 29th 2018. The services included Ash Wednesday and Maundy Thursday services. On Saturday, March 17th The Local Scripps Spelling Bee was held at the Blount Chapel. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area and Danville Host Lions Club sponsored this event in conjunction With Averett University. On Tuesday, March 20th Ben David Jewelers hosted “A Day of Happiness” at their location of Danville, VA. Our “littles” were able to describe what happiness means to them on paper that was displayed on a wall for the public to view. On Monday, March 19th The Willing Servants Sunday School Class of Mt. Hermon Baptist Church hosted a Spring event. Our littles played games, “shot hoops”, and enjoyed a pizza dinner followed by cupcakes for dessert. On Saturday, March 10th Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area held their Annual Bowl For Kids’ Sake at Riverside Lanes. There was various teams from corporations of Danville/Pittsylvania Co. along with fraternities, sororities, and unions. On February 19th Joe Nicholson led an event with our littles along with other members of the Willing Servants Sunday School class of Mt. Hermon Baptist Church. On Friday, February 26th 29 littles and 8 mentors traveled with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area to Richmond, VA and stayed overnight. On Saturday, February 27th there was a visit to the Tom Leonard’s Farmer’s Market in Glen Allen, VA. Every child was given the opportunity to purchase two fruits of their choice. On Thursday, February 15th our littles visited the Ascension Lutheran Church in celebration of “Fat Tuesday” with a pancake supper. They had their choice of regular or blueberry pancakes. Also, they had a Mardi Gras parade marching to the tune of “When the Saints Go Marching In”. During their march they held umbrellas, wore masks, and beads. Arts and crafts were led by two women of the church’s congregation.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area provides one-to-one mentoring for children in Danville and Pittsylvania County, serving over 300 children annually.
J. Hoffman, J. Word, M. Beasley (Board Chair), S Wingate, E. A. Woody, E. White, J. Menefee, and M. Mondul attended a Board of Directors meeting for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area. The meeting was held at Caesar's Virginia on Tuesday, March 11, 2025.
BBBS Capitol Hill Day took place in Washington DC on Feb 26. The training sessions focused on Senate and Congressional Presentations. The trip ended with visits to Senators Kaine and Warner's offices and Congresspersons John McGuire, Jennifer McClellan, and Ben Cline.
