Littles Go to Swim Camp

On Tuesday, July 5th – Thursday, July 8th, nine girls of the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area participated in the swimming camp at the YMCA of Danville, VA. The youth were given lessons on how to propel themselves through the water, how to float, and how to maintain themselves in deep water. The girls had a great time learning how to swim.

Littles Learn about Gun Safety at Workshop

On Thursday, June 24th, 22 littles, parents, and some friends from Cedar Terrace gathered at the United Way Large Conference Room for a workshop on Gun Safety. Corporal Tim Scearce of the Danville Police Department shared a video, an on-line test about drug abuse, and uniform props. This event was sponsored by the Community Foundation of Dan River Region.

Littles Go See the Universoul Circus

On Wednesday, June 22, 30 children and 5 chaperones traveled to Greensboro, NC for the Universoul Circus. The littles’ favorite acts were the elephant rides, magic show, and the motorcycle acrobatics. The dancers from all over the world had the children on the feet and moving. The event was sponsored by the Hughes Memorial Foundation and O’kelly’s Restaurant.

Bigs and Littles Help ‘Make Danville Shine’

On May 7th and 14th of 2016, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area  participated in The Make Danville Shine project. On the 7th, the mentoring group passed out bags of bird seed to visitors at the Community Market.  In addition, two residents won bird feeders. Littles Visit Belmont Estate, Learn Etiquette Tips

On Friday, May 6, 14 children along with  5 volunteers attended the Belmont Estate in Reidsville, North Carolina. There was an etiquette training during dinner followed by a tour of the estate by owner, Mr. Charlie Adams. It was a great learning experience for the youth and adults.
