Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area and the Danville Host Lions Club in partnership with Averett University is the proud sponsor of the Regional Scripps Spelling Bee. The event was scheduled for March 21, 2020 at Blount Chapel on the university’s campus. Due to the pandemic and the closure of schools in Danville/Pittsylvania County for the rest of the year, and Governor Northam’s order not to have more than 10 people in one setting, the event has been postponed.
As of 03/20/20, the EW Scripps National Spelling Bee to be held at National Harbor, MD has been suspended. The company will notify Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area when the suspension has been lifted. We will follow their guidance about having their regional event in preparation for the national competition.
We thank the students, teachers, families, and donors for their hard work and preparation. Know that Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area will do all that we can to host and send winner from our area to the National Spelling Bee. I appreciate your cooperation and perseverance in this matter.
