Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area held the Regional Spelling Bee at Averett University, Blount Chapel, on Saturday, March 16, 2024. Dante Pauley from Tunstall Middle School emerged as the winner. The winning word was toploftical, which means very superior in air or attitude. The winner is able to compete in the National Spelling Bee in National Harbor, Maryland May 26-31.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area CEO Pat Daniel attended BBBS at Capitol Hill Day in Washington DC on February 28, 2024. 115 BBBS agency leaders from 91 agencies from 31 states were in attendance as well as local BBBS affiliate CEO's, National Staff, and BBBS Board of Directors members. BBBS of Danville Area hosted the Annual Pancake Breakfast in the SOVAH Health Danville Dining Room on Saturday, December 2. The breakfast included scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, juices, and coffee. Attendees participated in various activities such as games, drawings, and music with Janene and Jaerlia Edmunds. Virginia State University President and Big Brothers Big Sisters of America Board Member Makola Abdulla greeted Littles on the October 28 trip at Virginia State University for the VSU vs Lincoln University game.
Students from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area, Boys and Girls Club of the Danville Area, and Community and Church Based Tutorial visited VSU for the game, dining, and discussion with VSU Director of Marketing Rodney Hall about admissions and financial aid.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area, Community and Church Based Tutorial, Boys and Girls Club of the Danville Area, and DRHA went to dinner at Mellow Mushroom before the Black Violin Concert at DPAC in Durham, NC. A majority of the youth attending sing in the choir or play musical instruments.

On September 9, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area attended a concert held at the Community Market Pavilion. The agency held a pre-concert reception at Temptations to meet legendary hip hop artist Jasiel “Yung Joc” Robinson.

42 youth ages of 12-18 from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area, Boys and Girls Club of the Danville Area, and Community and Church Based Tutorial visited Emory & Henry in Southwest VA.
The Admissions and Financial Aid team gave the youth a tour of the campus and tips on enrollment and financial aid. Each youth received materials and gifts to bring back home. The Emory & Henry visit ended with a trip to the Dining Hall. For more info, call 434-773-8394.
