Kristen Brandon returned to us to thank us for matching her with her Big, Bernice Jones Glass. Kristen has stayed in contact with her Big since she was 9 years old. She works as a Nursing Assistant at Howard County Hospital which is part of John Hopkins Medical Systems. She is also about to earn her RN certification.
On Monday, June 17th, 13 youth traveled to Mt. Hermon Baptist Church for a Splash Day. Activities included water balloons and Super Soakers. Joe Nicholson, Team Leader of the Willing Servants Sunday school class gave a motivational talk about “Trust.” Chicken dinner followed the fun and games.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area recently went on a trip that started with a tour of the Greenbrier Hotel grounds and bunker. The next day, they visited the Dixie Caverns in Salem, VA for a lecture about the caverns and a short tour. Later that day, they visited the Booker T. On May 13th, the North Main Baptist Church Hannah Sunday school class and the youth of Big Brothers Big Sisters had a “Paint N Sip” at the United Way large conference room. Seventeen youth and ten adults created sunflower paintings while sipping on sparkling soda.
The young girls of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area had the opportunity to learn about skincare and makeup tips for girls their age. Joan Pruitt led the Skincare Workshop at United Way. She gave the girls a skincare regimen as well as individualized makeup.
Men’s Ministry of Ascension Lutheran Church went on a tour with the youth of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area to DCC. The tour began on South Main Street at the Wyatt Building and ended at the Temple Building on Bonner Avenue. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area held its 26th Annual Pancake Breakfast in the Large Dining Room of SOVAH-Danville on Saturday, December 1, 2018. 2024 Regional Scripps Spelling Bee
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area held the Regional Spelling Bee at Averett University, Blount Chapel, on Saturday, March 16, 2024. Dante Pauley from Tunstall Middle School emerged as the winner. The winning word was toploftical, which means very superior in air or attitude. The winner is able to compete in the National Spelling Bee in National Harbor, Maryland May 26-31.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area CEO Pat Daniel attended BBBS at Capitol Hill Day in Washington DC on February 28, 2024. 115 BBBS agency leaders from 91 agencies from 31 states were in attendance as well as local BBBS affiliate CEO's, National Staff, and BBBS Board of Directors members.
