Willing Servants Sunday School

On February 19th Joe Nicholson led an event with our littles along with other members of the Willing Servants Sunday School class of Mt. Hermon Baptist Church. Littles Travel to Richmond, VA

On Friday, February 26th  29 littles and 8 mentors traveled with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area to Richmond, VA and stayed overnight. On Saturday, February 27th there was a visit to the Tom Leonard’s Farmer’s Market in Glen Allen, VA. Every child was given the opportunity to purchase two fruits of their choice. Littles Celebrate “Fat Tuesday”

On Thursday, February 15th our littles visited the Ascension Lutheran Church in celebration of “Fat Tuesday”  with a pancake supper. They had their choice of regular or blueberry pancakes. Also, they had a Mardi Gras parade marching to the tune of “When the Saints Go Marching In”. During their march they held umbrellas, wore masks, and beads. Valentine’s Day Celebration

On Monday, February 12th Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area held a Valentine’s Day Celebration at the United Way of Danville, VA. Members of the Jr. Wednesday Club paired with around 10 of our “little” sisters. Together, they  made Valentine’s Day cards for the residents of a local nursing facility. They received gifts and had dinner during this event.  Our girls had a wonderful time spreading the love!

Christmas Giveaway

On Monday, December 18th, BBBS of Danville Area hosted a Christmas Giveaway where 63 children were presented with gifts and their families given a ham or turkey along with a bag of Holiday Groceries. Littles Enjoy Light Show, Santa, and Holiday Dinner

The Jr. Wednesday Club accompanied the youth of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area to the Community Light Show in Ballou Park on Monday, December 11th. Following the show was a visit to the Children’s Village at the Ballou Recreation center. There, the children took pictures with Santa, participated in holiday crafts and enjoyed hot chocolate. Annual Pancake Breakfast Enjoyed by All

One hundred Bigs, Littles, and families enjoyed a morning filled with music, dancing, and pancakes at Big Brothers Big Sisters Annual Pancake Breakfast. Youth Attend National Conference, Learn about Gangs and Bullying

Eleven youth from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area attended the Virginia Statewide National Conference in Glen Allen, VA on September 22 and 23rd. The Youth Cafe had presentations by the VA Attorney General with collaboration from the City Norfolk’s Commonwealth Attorney’s office on gangs and bullying. Big/Little of July 2017 Announced

Margaret Milam is a former Title I teacher who uses her professional skills to assist the youth with Reading. She mentors in the school based program. The volunteer states the youth has been a joy to talk to. Margaret focuses mainly her “little”, but interacts with other students during lunch as well.
