September Big of the Month: Mrs. Cara Burton
Many months ago, Cara Burton came to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area to set up a pottery class. She let us know that she had always wanted to be a “Big”. August Big of the Month: Elizabeth Jennings
Elizabeth and Destiny have only been matched for a short time but they have still managed to form a strong bond. Ms. Jennings has taken her little sister to a variety of places. Cici’s is Destiny’s favorite restaurant. The volunteer assists Destiny with her social skills. Destiny is currently an honor student. All Aboard The 4H Junior Camp Express!
On Monday, July 14th a few littles took off for a five day overnight camp to the W.E. Skelton Educational Center located in Smith Mountain Lake to enjoy many outdoor activities and lots of fun!
Littles Begin Swimming Class
On July 7th, Our Little’s began swimming classes held at the YMCA sponsored by the Womack Foundation! These classes were five days long and the little’s seemed to catch on pretty fast!

Big of the Year Announced
Big Brothers Big Sisters has awarded Daisy Simmons as the Big of The Year! The award was presented at the Danville-Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce’s Business After Hours event at the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the Danville Area office recently. She and her little, Destiny Roberts have been matched for four years. Destiny’s grades and attitude have improved and Simmons has enjoyed watching her grow and evolve into a fine young lady….

2024 Regional Scripps Spelling Bee
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area held the Regional Spelling Bee at Averett University, Blount Chapel, on Saturday, March 16, 2024. Dante Pauley from Tunstall Middle School emerged as the winner. The winning word was toploftical, which means very superior in air or attitude. The winner is able to compete in the National Spelling Bee in National Harbor, Maryland May 26-31.
The agency is thankful for the other participants who competed for the title. BBBS of Danville Area thanks the host, pronouncer, and judges who assisted in making this Regional Bee possible. For more information about the Bee and BBBS of Danville Area, call 434-773-8394.

Big Brothers Big Sisters at Capitol Hill
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area CEO Pat Daniel attended BBBS at Capitol Hill Day in Washington DC on February 28, 2024. 115 BBBS agency leaders from 91 agencies from 31 states were in attendance as well as local BBBS affiliate CEO's, National Staff, and BBBS Board of Directors members.
