BBBS Danville Launches New Website
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area is pleased to announce the launch of its new website in early Summer 2014. In addition to containing information about the organization and its programs, the new website will feature a mobile-friendly design, developed for optimal viewing on any browser or mobile device. April Big of the Month
Paul Dickerson and his “litte”, Naszier, have been matched for one year. The volunteer is dedicated to the program and the little. Weekly, the child and volunteer find something to do. Tammy and Hermani have been matched for almost three years. Tammy is a dedicated “Big” who loves being a mentor. She says she feels as if her “little” is a part of her family. February Big of the Month
Coach Matt Parke is the head Men’s Basketball Coach for Averett University. His job is to inspire a team of young men. Every year he encourages the entire team to sign up to be “Bigs”. Coach follows up with the BBBS to make sure that each volunteer visits the school and sees their “little” regularly. In addition, the coach visits his little, Elijah at Forest Hills School. Marie Young has been involved in the In-school Mentoring Program for several years. The volunteer and her youth have been matched for a year. Gretna Elementary office staff has become very familiar with the volunteer. Her little, Jasmin was very excited to have the volunteer as her “Big”. Brian Foster definitely has a heart for children. He wants to help them be the best that they can be. 2024 Regional Scripps Spelling Bee
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area held the Regional Spelling Bee at Averett University, Blount Chapel, on Saturday, March 16, 2024. Dante Pauley from Tunstall Middle School emerged as the winner. The winning word was toploftical, which means very superior in air or attitude. The winner is able to compete in the National Spelling Bee in National Harbor, Maryland May 26-31.
The agency is thankful for the other participants who competed for the title. BBBS of Danville Area thanks the host, pronouncer, and judges who assisted in making this Regional Bee possible. For more information about the Bee and BBBS of Danville Area, call 434-773-8394.

Big Brothers Big Sisters at Capitol Hill
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area CEO Pat Daniel attended BBBS at Capitol Hill Day in Washington DC on February 28, 2024. 115 BBBS agency leaders from 91 agencies from 31 states were in attendance as well as local BBBS affiliate CEO's, National Staff, and BBBS Board of Directors members.
