On Thursday, August 13th 2015 CiCi’s Pizza hosted a Dine to Donate Event for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area. 15% of proceeds from 4pm-8pm were given to the organization. On Thursday, August 6th, 2015 Big Brothers Big Sisters held the Annual Back-To-School Picnic at Dan Daniel Park of Danville, VA. Bigs, littles, volunteers, board members, and sponsors were in attendance. Backpacks and afterschool snacks were provided for the youth. There was food, fun, and snow cones. Congratulations to our Big of the Year, Sherriff Mike Mondul! He was recently awarded Big Brother of the Year at the Annual Back To School Picnic. He has been an outstanding Big Brother to his little, ZyQuan McCollum for four years. Mike Mondul says, “We have grown up together.” Way to go Mike!
On Saturday, July 25th Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area held a Mini-Conference at Calvary Baptist Church 218 Holbrook St., Danville VA. On Wednesday July, 15th, 2015 Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area traveled to Meadows of The Dan, VA. In route they viewed “Lovers Leap” and continued on to Nancy’s Candy Co. Thirty-one participants attended. On June 26th, 2015, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area traveled to Richmond, VA to the Virginia Science Museum. Some of the exhibits had interactive pieces to it which allowed the “littles” to be creative. The youth and volunteers enjoyed a movie about humpback whales in “The Dome.” A special thanks to the volunteer “Bigs” who went to traveled with us. This trip was made possible through the Community Block Grant.
The Womack Foundation has sponsored Swim Lessons for the participants of the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area program. The girls and boys have taken lessons, and enjoyed some free time in the pool. Pictured is some the boys having “beach ball” fun at the YMCA pool. Another group from the program will take advantage of lessons next month.
On June 5, 2015 there was an event called, “Breakfast With The Board”. There were ten smiling faces in attendance who shared breakfast with the staff and board. Kelvin Perry, board president, hosted the event with inspiring questions. Everyone received a gifts. Most of all, everyone had a great time.
On May 22, 2015, a few Littles and parents of The Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area attended the “Pancake Dinner” at The Community Market. The Danville Rotary sponsored this event.
On May 11, 2015 a few Littles dined at The Golden Leaf Bistro located in Danville, VA. This event was in conjunction with The Junior Wednesday Club.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area provides one-to-one mentoring for children in Danville and Pittsylvania County, serving over 300 children annually.
J. Hoffman, J. Word, M. Beasley (Board Chair), S Wingate, E. A. Woody, E. White, J. Menefee, and M. Mondul attended a Board of Directors meeting for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area. The meeting was held at Caesar's Virginia on Tuesday, March 11, 2025.
BBBS Capitol Hill Day took place in Washington DC on Feb 26. The training sessions focused on Senate and Congressional Presentations. The trip ended with visits to Senators Kaine and Warner's offices and Congresspersons John McGuire, Jennifer McClellan, and Ben Cline.
