Danville, VA Sheriff and Police departments joined Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area to watch the Harlem Globetrotters at Averett University’s North Campus. There were snacks and drinks. Children participated in competitions the Harlem Globetrotters organized and met individually with the Harlem Globetrotters.

On Thursday, September 20th The Men’s Ministry of the Ascension Lutheran Church met up with our boys for their monthly adventure. This event was held at Riverside Lanes where they all enjoyed bowling, hot dogs and hamburgers. There were many strikes in the game that landed many smiles on the youth and volunteers faces. Our youth are so excited to see what’s in store for next time. This event was a “BIG” hit!
On Wednesday, September 19th our girls from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area joined Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church for a Potluck Supper. The youth feasted on sloppy joe sliders, chicken nuggets, chocolate cake, and chocolate chip cookies. They also used paper hands for the icebreaker and played “Reach Out and Touch Somebody’s Hand” with members of the congregation and the Evangelism team.
The Daly Seven Corporation in conjunction with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area kicked off the Daly’s Day of Donating on Wednesday, August 1st. The Daly Seven Corporation staff and leaders choose a total of three sites in Danville, VA, Greensboro, NC, and Raleigh, NC, to host the events. Approximately 40 “littles”, “Bigs” and staff went to the Kaleideum North Museum (SciWorks) in Winston-Salem, NC on Friday, July 27th. The museum includes interactive science learning areas, a planetarium, exhibits, and an outdoor environmental park. They all had an opportunity to learn about the solar system and galaxy. After a day of learning, the youth and volunteers enjoyed a meal at the local K&W.
The Moriah C. Price Mission’s team of the Loyal Baptist Church hosted their for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area. Hamburgers, hot dogs, and sweet treats made the day for twenty littles and friends. The Mission’s team provided back to school packets for each child present. It was all about fun and games.
Harry and Aaron have been matched for seven years in March. When they met, the volunteer had retired from the Danville Public Schools. He had been employed by the District for more than thirty years as a Varsity High School coach for boys’ basketball. The coach had winning state tiles and many boys to join the NBA. The Willing Servants Sunday School Class of The Mt. Hermon Baptist Church held its monthly event with the “littles” of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area on Monday, May 21st. The children played pickle ball, shot hoops, and Joe Nicholson taught them a lesson using the comparison of various tree leaves. 2024 Regional Scripps Spelling Bee
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area held the Regional Spelling Bee at Averett University, Blount Chapel, on Saturday, March 16, 2024. Dante Pauley from Tunstall Middle School emerged as the winner. The winning word was toploftical, which means very superior in air or attitude. The winner is able to compete in the National Spelling Bee in National Harbor, Maryland May 26-31.

Big Brothers Big Sisters at Capitol Hill
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area CEO Pat Daniel attended BBBS at Capitol Hill Day in Washington DC on February 28, 2024. 115 BBBS agency leaders from 91 agencies from 31 states were in attendance as well as local BBBS affiliate CEO's, National Staff, and BBBS Board of Directors members.
