Mary Woods has been matched with youth almost 6 years.  She has started with the in school program but felt the youth would benefit more with the community based match. Big Brothers Big Sisters Hosts Spelling Bee

On Saturday, March 18th Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area held the local Scripps Spelling Bee at the Blount Chapel of Averett University. There were 20 participants from public and private, elementary, and middle schools in Danville and Pittsylvania Co. After 25 rounds, Ryan Crawford from Sacred Heart School was declared the winner. “Inside the Penal System” Discussion

Fourteen “littles” and two parents attended a discussion with Sheriff Mike Mondul entitled “Inside the Penal System.” The High Sheriff gave the youth many examples of what would land them in the local facilities as well as maximum security facilities in the state and nation. Cultural Experience at San Marcos

Once per month the Junior Wednesday Club of Danville provides an outing and learning experience for the littles of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area. Littles Take the “Great Chatham Adventure”

On Tuesday, February 7th, 14 youth journeyed on the “Great Chatham Adventure”. On this journey the children were able to shop for Valentine’s gifts for their loved ones at Family Dollar #3554 in Chatham, VA. Additionally, each child received a gift of chocolates from the store. Littles Inspired by “Hidden Figures” Movie

On January 31st, 10 youth of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area visited the Danville Stadium 12. The youth were inspired by the movie, Hidden Figures which presented the untold stories of African American women who assisted NASA during the era of segregation. Littles Take Yoga

On Monday, January 16th Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area in conjunction with the Jr. Wednesday Club hosted a Yoga session. Christina Decker, of the club was the instructor. Ten youth from Danville and Pittsylvania Co. were provided Yoga mats for the instructions. They all participated in several Yoga poses during the session. Trip to Virginia Beach

On December 27th-28th Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area traveled to Virginia Beach. While there, they were able to experience a riding tour through the Norfolk Naval Station. Lanyards were purchased for souvenir gifts. Later the same evening, youth, staff, and volunteers saw the Parade of Lights on the Virginia Beach Boardwalk. Shoes for Kids’ Sake

From October 3 to December 1st, TJ Davis State Farm of Danville, VA in partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area held a shoe drive called, “”. Shoes were donated from all over the Danville-Pittsylvania County and dropped off at the State Farm office.
