BBBS of Danville Area Receives Certificate of Recognition for January’s “Mentoring Month”

On Tuesday, February 2, 2016, Mayor Sherman M. Saunders of the Council Chamber presented Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville Area with a Certificate of Recognition for January’s “Mentoring Month”. Littles Treated to Manicures & Dinner

On Monday, January 11, 2016 sixteen young ladies in our program were treated to manicures at Elegant Nails and to dinner at San Marcos. Members of The Junior Wednesday Club were in attendance as well. They all thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

“Having someone In Their Corner… Can Change Their World” – BBBS of NYC

Dr. Edward White has been a part of BBBS since the 1970s. He’s been past president of the BBBS of Danville Area’s Board and currently serves as treasurer. He has been responsible for board governance an oversight for our organization. Most recently, he has participated in the Cherry Blossom Train Trip to Washington D.C. as “Big For a Day”. It’s good to have Ed in our corner!

Littles Attend Youth Day at Liberty University

On December 12, 2015, Big Brothers Big Brothers Big Sisters traveled to Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA. They attended  “Youth Day” where the Liberty University Flames played against the Lamar University Cardinals. The children were given Santa hats, took pictures and were given popcorn.  Ten “Littles”, two volunteers and 1 staff member attended this trip. This event ended with dinner.  The entire trip was sponsored by Community Foundation of Dan River Region.

On November 23, 2015 10 littles attended a tour of Averett University.  They were accompanied by the Cherrystone Men’s Division. Following the tour they all enjoyed dinner in the campus Dining Hall.

Big/Little of November Announced

Cara Burton came to Big Brothers Big Sisters to talk about programs at the Danville Museum of Fine Arts. She asked that we send her an application to be a “Big”. The magical process began from there. Cara is always concerned about her “little” and her school work. She makes sure that she is active in the arts, the community, and resort life. Averett University Tour

On Tuesday, November 3, 2015 11 youth, along with members of The Jr. Wednesday Club, visited Averett University and toured the campus. Following the tour was dinner at the Dining Hall. Then, Marquitta Graves, Associate Registrar  and Alexa Ehrhardt, Executive Director of the Center For Community Engagement and Career Competitiveness, gave the youth a presentation about the University.
